Volunteer in Ocala

Studies have shown that volunteering strengthens communities, is good for your health and can even help you land a job! By volunteering just a few hours each month you can help us keep our programs running smoothly, our costs low and have a great time while doing it!

Volunteer Application

All City of Ocala volunteers are required to fill out a volunteer application. Download the volunteer application and email it to CCarroll@ocalafl.gov to begin the volunteer process.

International Coastal Cleanup

Tuscawilla Park | 800 NE Sanchez Ave.

All Ages | Free

IIn partnership with volunteer organizations and individuals around the globe, the International Coastal Cleanup® (ICC) engages people to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways. Thanks to millions of volunteers around the world, the ICC has become a beacon of hope, leading and inspiring action in support of our ocean. Since its beginning, more than 18 million volunteers have collected more than 380 million pounds of trash. Trash travels, so even picking up litter off a city sidewalk can help protect wildlife and communities that depend on clean waterways.

Ocala is the most central location on the map of Florida. Help us pick up items around Tuscawilla and Art Park to collect data of which items are most common, and join in with volunteers all over the world!

People should register ahead of time with organization and number in their group to secure a hat! Items will be available but helps if you can bring your own: bucket, gloves, pickers, clipboards, phone to download the CleanSwell App, and plenty of friends!

Fort King National Historic Landmark and Visitor Center

Fort King Archaeology Center

We are seeking:

Data Entry & Archival Support – Assist with cataloging artifacts, organizing records, and refining our research database.

Artifact Photography & Documentation – Photograph and upload items into our digital catalog to improve public access.

Artifact Cataloging & Preserving – Carefully document and organize real artifacts found on Fort King during archaeological excavations.

Docents & Public Engagement on Friday and Saturday – Help interpret our archaeological findings and share Fort King’s unique story with visitors.

Discovery Center Exhibit Docent

Volunteer docents are asked to offer great customer service while answering visitors’ questions, sharing knowledge of the exhibit and striving to ensure that each visitor’s experience is enjoyable. Volunteers will help engage each visitor in their exploration of the exhibit, encouraging safe and meaningful play. Volunteer shifts are offered Tuesday – Saturday and vary in length ranging from 2 hour to 4 hour shifts.

Discovery Center Lab Tech

Volunteer lab techs are asked to offer great customer service while answering visitors’ questions and assist staff with providing hands-on experiences with interactive programs and educational opportunities. The lab tech will also assist with caring for the center’s collection of snakes, reptiles and arachnids. Volunteer shifts are offered Tuesday – Saturday and vary in length ranging from 2 hour to 4 hour shifts.
