Lift Stations

The City of Ocala operates over 145 lift stations, which play a vital role in our sanitary sewer system. While gravity typically moves wastewater from homes and businesses to one of our Water Reclamation Facilities, changes in elevation can disrupt this natural flow. That’s where lift stations come in, they “lift” the wastewater to a higher elevation, allowing gravity to take over once again. All personnel in the Equipment Maintenance Division are certified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Each lift station is remotely monitored by our skilled technicians using a system called SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). This technology allows them to track flow rates and receive alerts if something isn’t functioning properly, ensuring quick response and continuous system reliability.

Because lift stations handle raw sewage, the City of Ocala takes proactive steps to minimize odors using a variety of odor control technologies. If you ever notice any odor issues, visible or audible alarms, or have concerns about the appearance of a lift station site, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (352) 351-6775. Your feedback helps us maintain a clean and efficient system for everyone.
